1H and 13C NMR analysis of 2‐acetamido‐3‐mercapto‐3‐methyl‐N‐aryl‐butanamides and 2‐acetamido‐3‐methyl‐3‐nitrososulfanyl‐N‐aryl‐butanamide derivatives

The complete assignment of the ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectra of various 2‐acetamido‐3‐mercapto‐3‐methyl‐N‐aryl‐butanamides and 2‐acetamide‐3‐methyl‐3‐nitrososulfanyl‐N‐aryl‐butanamides with p‐methoxy, o‐chloro and m‐chloro substituents is reported. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Two-photon dual-channel fluorogenic probe for in situ imaging the mitochondrial H2S/viscosity in the brain of drosophila Parkinson’s disease model

H₂S is an essential gas signal molecule in cells, and viscosity is a key internal environmental parameter. Recent studies have shown that H₂S acts as a cytoarchitecture agent and gas transmitter in many tissues, e.g., as a regulator of neuroendocrine in the brain for mediating vascular tone in blood vessels. Mitochondrial viscosity is an important parameter for judging whether mitochondrial function is normal. It has been reported that oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are connected with Parkinson’s disease (PD), and the protective role of H₂S in PD models has been extensively demonstrated. Herein, Mito-HS, a new two-photon fluorescent probe was demonstrated to detect cross-talk between the two channels of mitochondrial viscosity and H₂S content. Moreover, this probe could detect the relative amount of and changes in mitochondrial H₂S in situ due to the reduced mitochondrial targeting ability after reaction with H₂S. The results show that H₂S in mitochondria is inversely related to viscosity. The PD model has a lower H₂S in mitochondria and a higher mitochondrial viscosity than did the normal. This result is important for our deep understanding of PD and its causes.     

Light-Driven Syngas Production over Defective ZnIn2S4 Nanosheets

Photocatalytic syngas (CO and H₂) production with CO₂ as gas source not only ameliorates greenhouse effect, but also produces valuable chemical feedstocks. However, traditional photocatalytic systems require noble metal or suffers from low yield. Here, we demonstrate that S vacancies ZnIn₂S₄ (V_S-ZnIn₂S₄) nanosheets are an ideal photocatalyst to drive CO₂ reduction into syngas. It is found that building S vacancies can endow ZnIn₂S₄ with stronger photoabsorption, efficient electron–hole separation, and larger CO₂ adsorption, finally promoting both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and CO₂ reduction reaction (CO₂RR). The syngas yield of CO and H₂ is therefore significantly increased. In contrast to pristine ZnIn₂S₄, the syngas yield over V_S-ZnIn₂S₄ can be improved by roughly ≈4.73 times and the CO/H₂ ratio is modified from 1:4.18 to 1:1. Total amount of syngas after 12 h photocatalysis is as high as 63.20 mmol g⁻¹ without use of any noble metals, which is even higher than those of traditional noble metal-based catalysts in the reported literatures. This work demonstrates the critical role of S vacancies in mediating catalytic activity and selectivity, and highlights the attractive ability of defective ZnIn₂S₄ for light-driven syngas production.     

1H and 13C NMR Determination of the Enantiomeric Purity of Substituted 4-Amino-3- (thien-2-Yl)-Butyric Acids and 4-Amino-3-(Benzo[b]Furan-2-yl)-Butyric Acids,Ligands of the GabaB Receptor.

The enantiomeric composition and absolute configuration of 4-Amino-3-(benzo[b]furan-2-yl)-Butanoic Acids and of 4-Amino-3-(thien-2-yl)-Butanoic Acids 1 may be accurately determined by ¹H and ¹³C nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of the corresponding derivatives 3 prepared by reaction with chiral reagents. Correlation with HPLC is signaled.     

Zur Anreicherung der stabilen Isotope des Schwefels durch Fest-Flüissig-Austausch unter Verwendung von Ionenaustauschern

An verschiedenen Systemen chemischer Verbindungen wurden Versuche zur Anreicherung des stabilen Isotopes ³⁴S unter Verwendung der Ionenaustauscher Wofatit L 150, SBW und SBK nach den Methoden der Frontalchromatographie und der Bandenverdrāngungschromatographie ausgeführt. Beim Isotopenaustauschsystem Hydrogensulfit (am Ionenaustauscher)/Schwefeldioxid (in wäβriger Lösung) wurden Verfahrensweise und Betriebsparameter hinsichtlich des Anreicherungsgrades optimiert. Mit Hilfe einer einfachen Methode gelang es, aus den Versuchsergebnissen Werle für den elementaren Trennfaktor und die Trennstufenhöhe zu berechnen.     

Experiments on 40 Gb/s Transmission with Wavelength Conversion: Results from the IST ATLAS Project

In this article we report the main experimental results obtained in the framework of the IST ATLAS project regarding the transmission at 40 Gb/s over long terrestrial links, including the frequency conversion of a signal. We report the single-channel 40 Gb/s transmission over a link 500 km long with an amplifier spacing of 100 km, both with G.652 fibers and G.653 fibers by periodically compensating the chromatic dispersion with dispersion-compensating fibers. We report the single-channel transmission at 40 Gb/s, also, after the wavelength conversion of a channel with both PPLN and semiconductor optical amplifier devices. In particular, 500 km distances are obtained with PPLN wavelength conversion and 300 km distances with semiconductor optical amplifiers. Some results have been reported for electronic devices operating at 40 Gb/s.     

Isotope Zusammensetzung Der Mineralwässer Der Mongolei

Abstract

The isotopic composition (D, ¹⁸O, ⁸⁷Sr, ³He) of thermal and mineral waters of Mongolia is discussed. The Sr-isotope ratio depends on the rock's contact. Near the Chubsugul-lake ³He-/⁴He-values are high. A certain similarity between the waters of Mongolia and those of East Siberia can be derived from the obtained data.     

Moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 projective lines with quadruple points

We classify moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points. We show that moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points may consist of more than 2 disconnected components, namely 3 or 4 distinct points. We also present defining equations to those arrangements whose moduli spaces are still reducible after taking quotients of complex conjugations.     

Synthesis of Galactosylhydroxylysine and its Analogs

Synthesis of (--)-galactosylhydroxylysine (GHL, I), and its analogs (+)-2 and (+)-3, which are essential for development of assays for osteoporosis, is described starting from (2S,5R)-(+)-hydroxylysine (4).
